Intro to Software Interviewing (ISI) is a 1-credit S/U course where students learn the concepts needed to be successful in technical software engineering interviews. Students will dive deeper into common technical interview practices and patterns as well as strategies used when taking both online assessments and face-to-face interviews with an engineer. This course equips students with knowledge in data structures and algorithms needed specifically for solving and analyzing questions in timed settings. Students are expected to attend weekly lectures & optional workshops as well as complete assigned interview questions outside of class. Course topics will include data structures such as hashmaps, linked lists, and trees in addition to common algorithmic patterns including sliding window, graph traversal, dynamic programming, and more.
Course Modality: In Person
Lectures: Mondays, 7:30 PM - 8:45 PM EST @ Bard Hall 140
Workshops: Saturdays, 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM EST @ Upson 225
Email Contact: [email protected] & [email protected]
It is highly recommended that students have completed or are currently enrolled in CS 2110/2112 with sufficient knowledge of data structures. However, this is not mandatory, as long as the student is comfortable with basic data structures and search/sort algorithms.
This is a 7-week course that typically requires 3-4 hours per week outside of lecture. You will work on 5 assignments, and perform 2 mock interviews over the rest of the semester. In addition, there is weekly lectures on Mondays and (optional but encouraged) workshops on Saturdays. The Lectures will focus on teaching concepts and overarching skills. The Workshops will focus on hands-on application of the lecture topic.
There are no exams for this class. There are Mock Interviews instead to evaluate your understanding of the the course.

After completing the course, students will be able to…
Identify strategies and decisions made to solve problems in the most efficient way possible.
Demonstrate the ability to apply data structure and algorithm concepts learned from other courses to technical applications.
Orchestrate, organize, and produce code in a technical interview while analyzing trade offs and runtime.
Gain confidence during evaluations for software positions.
Attendance to lecture is mandatory. Students are given 2 non-excused absences throughout the semester. Each lecture you attend is worth 7% of this grade, capped at 35%.
