🕐 Attendance

Lectures & Absence Policy

Attendance is mandatory. If you must miss a class, please be sure to email the instructors in advance, with an explanation. Students are given 2 non-excused absence. If you will be absent, please let the instructors know 24 hours in advance.

Workshops

Workshops are completely optional but HIGHLY ENCOURAGED. These are TA-led session designed to help you to apply the material from lecture. TAs will select a couple example problems to go over during the workshop and students are expected to follow along and work with other people. The session is meant to be heavily collaborative (similar to pair programming). Remember, attending workshops are a chunk of your Attendance grade.

📌 Grades & Assignment Submission

Assignments are all weighted equally and your final grade with be the average of all 8 assignments.

Submitting your assignment

All assignments are deadlines are posted before the class starts. Follow them accordingly. Most of time, assignments are assigned on Mondays and due on Sundays at 11:59pm. Please review the dates and times of each assignment in the calendar. Our TAs will grade and provide feedback on your implementations and code the week after submission.

In the past, we allowed students to take slip days for submitting their assignments. Given our current infrastructure and methods of homework submission, it is difficult to track when students use their slip days and their ongoing count of slip days. Asking DeriveIt to pull late submissions for each assignment from that database seems like an unreasonable ask. Therefore, we can neither offer slip days nor homework extensions. Luckily, each assignment only comprises 6% of students’ final grades, so students should not stress out about not being able to submit an assignment or two!

😢 Artificial Intelligence

Using generative AI tools (such as ChatGPT) for assignments is prohibited. Rationale: while we understand the ubiquity of generative AI tools, we strongly believe that critically thinking about efficient ways of solving the assignment is an essential component (and a learning outcome) of the software interviewing. To this end, we do not want students to be influenced (or even misled) by seemingly-correct generative AI responses.

Also, can you use ChatGPT during an interview?

🫡 Academic Integrity

We will strictly follow Cornell University's policies on academic integrity as outlined in the Academic Integrity Handbook. Any work submitted by a student in this course for academic credit will be the student's own work.  For this course, collaboration is allowed only when it is made explicit in the assignment or project description.  In case of doubt, contact the instructor.

All assignments may be subject to submission for textual/coding similarity review to plagiarism detection services. All course materials are intellectual property belonging to the author. Students are not permitted to buy, sell or distribute any course materials without the express permission of the instructor.  Such unauthorized behavior constitutes academic misconduct.
